Artist Statement:
My inspiration was all over the place for this artwork. I don't think I've ever struggled this much with brainstorming for an art project. To decide on what I was going to do I looked over a list of ideas and eliminated those I didn't like. Eventually, I narrowed it down to focus on hair. I really liked curly hair because it has a lot of detail, but instead, I decided on an afro.
The first thing I did was sketch a portrait and outlined the afro. Next, I drew the rest of the body towards the edge of the paper. Then, I painted the hair with watercolor. I then worked on the portrait with watercolor and went back over the hair. I also added more red and black to create shadows. Then I started to paint the corners purple.
